The song seems to me a kind of new understanding of things first explored in PF's song "Time." Roger Waters wrote the earlier one, and in his youth captured the kind of dismay felt by so many as they age. Whereas David Gilmour's "The Division Bell" seems more resigned, at peace, with the disappointment that realizing time passes can bring. Really appreciate your taking time to check out these PF songs, and I look forward to more!

My maiden name was McCarthy. We can't trace it back past my great grandfather. (We live in the US) My grandfather, Owen, married a Cashman (also Irish). What intrigues me is how dark my father was. He tanned in just a few minutes out in the sun, his eyes were brown, eyebrows black. I read somewhere that the McCarthys fled Ireland in Queen E the First's time and it was called the Flight of the Crows. Has anyone else heard this? Could the reference to "Crows" be because of their coloring? Or were they loud, liked bright things and went about in large flocks? I also wondered if dad's darkness might have had some Spanish "contribution"? After the Armada maybe?

Great reaction Diane! One of my favourite PF songs. As it was my mom's favourite, I find it hard to get through this one without tearing up since her passing in 2018. Very reflective song! I highly recommend checking the live version from the PULSE tour (you don't need to react to it - but you NEED to see/hear it!) The sound is deeper, fuller. Pink Floyd is truly a 'live' band - they excel at making their studio songs better when performing it before an audience! (might have something to do with the visuals too!) Cheers!

Since the band last played in the 90s, you might recall a minor hit of theirs called “Come Dancing”. There is an accompanying video to the song you can find on UA-cam. I believe you would enjoy it. It’s very theatrical.

"Shipping Down to Boston" by Dropkick Murphys was featured in an American film called THE BOONDOCK SAINTS (1999). It starred Norman Reedus (long before THE WALKING DEAD), Sean Patrick Flannery, Billy Connolly & Willem Dafoe. The Dropkick Murphys song played over the opening credits.

If it wasn't for people who were prepared to "rage against the machine" you probably woudn't have the opportunity to state your opinions, whatever they may be, however these people take a stand which gradually advance people's rights and freedoms. As for the implication of hypocracy, we are all part of "the machine" it is only by using it to highlight injustice that these changes may be achieved. Without people calling out such injustice over decades of gradual change, you would have a very different life.

The Pogues were the very first band to play a mixture of Irish Folk Music and Punk Rock back in 1982. In my opinion, they will always be in a category of their own and not part of a "Celtic Punk Trifecta". There were The Pogues, then there were hundreds of bands that were all influenced by them and came after. Just my two cents. RIP Shane MacGowan ☘️

If you have a gas range/oven call the gas company first. They have to inspect it.... giving you an free answer to what is wrong... and sometimes they have to fix it if it is a gas issue or they turn the gas off until you call a repair person.

When TV first started (1949), the FCC introduced the Fairness Doctrine , which stated that holders of broadcast licenses had to present both sides of controversial issues in a manner fairly reflecting the different viewpoints. That changed in 1987 when Reagan abolished the Fairness Doctrine . You'll find that much of what's wrong with our country can be traced to Reagan and the Moral Majority-types who are turning us into a Christo-fascist state.
